Josh Turner Finds Higher Calling In Graham Film

Comments

Josh Turner is heading into the third single from his 2007 album "Everything Is Fine," but right now he's most excited about his role in "Billy: The Early Years," a film about evangelist Billy Graham's start that's due out Oct. 10.

Turner -- who plays Graham's music director, George Beverly Shea -- co-stars along with Armie Hammer, Martin Landau, Lindsay Wagner and Stefanie Butler and tells Billboard.com the project was "a lot of fun."

"It was my way of honoring the legacy of George Beverly Shea and Billy Graham and what they've done in their lives and their careers and the lives they've touched -- obviously including mine," says Turner, who spent his early singing in the Baptist church and attended several Graham crusades.

"A lot of people don't know who George Beverly Shea is, and I'm always kind of surprised by that. I've always been familiar with what they've done, what they've been about. So when this part was offered to me, I said yes right off the bat, absolutely. There was no thinking about it. It was a great opportunity."

Turner says he's "already started kinda writing" for his fourth album but has no firm plans yet to go into the studio.
