Jones Drops In For Wax Poetic 'Sessions'

Superstar songbird Norah Jones is among the guests featured on "Nublu Sessions," the new album by New York band Wax Poetic. The set, due Feb. 10 from Ultra Records, will also boast guest appearances by N'Dea Davenport, Saul Williams and U-Roy.

Jones performed from 1997-1998 with Wax Poetic, led by Ilhan Ersahin, owner of downtown New York club Nublu. Jones honed her chops with the group after moving from her native Texas to New York to further her musical career. Her two contributions to "Nublu Sessions" are "Tell Me" and "Angels," both tracks that she sang regularly with the band in her earlier stint.

Multi-instrumentalist Ersahin now fronts a full band -- drummer Jochen Rueckert, guitarist Thor Madsen, bassist Jesse Murphy and singer Marla Turner -- but says the guest appearances on "Nublu Sessions" are reminiscent of the band's early days as a mutable project. "We were all sidemen, playing together when we had time," he says in a statement. "People would drop in. People would drop out. It was whoever was around."

Wax Poetic released its self-titled debut in 2000 on Atlantic Records.
