Johnson Leads Canadian Country Awards Nominees

Comments

Carolyn Dawn Johnson leads the nominations for the 2004 Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) with six, including top female artist. Right behind her, Doc Walker and Jason McCoy are tied with five nominations apiece. Terri Clark, Aaron Pritchett and Beverley Mahood each received four nods.

The event will be held Sept. 13 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, and will air live on CBC Television in Canada and CMT in the United States. During the ceremony, Ontario bluegrass band the Good Brothers and Vancouver disc jockey "Weird" Harold Kendall will be inducted into the CCMA Hall of Fame.

Johnson, Doc Walker, McCoy and Clark are all nominated in the Fans' Choice category -- the only CCMA honor voted on by fans. Shania Twain rounds out the category, which is sponsored by Kraft Cheez Whiz.

Johnson's single "Simple Life" is nominated in single, CMT video and SOCAN song of the year categories, while her Arista set "Dress Rehearsal" is up for album of the year.

Doc Walker is up for group of the year; its "The Show Is Free" is nominated in the top single category and for SOCAN song of the year. The Manitoba-based act's Open Road release "Everyone Aboard" is nominated in the top album category.

McCoy is vying for top male artist, while his "Sins, Lies and Angels" is up for album of the year. "Still," which appears on the Open Road set, netted him nominations for SOCAN song of the year and CMT video of the year.

Clark rounds out her nominations with a female artist of the year nod, as well as a pair of mentions in the single of the year category: "Girls Lie Too" and "I Wanna Do It All."

The full list of nominees can be found on the CCMA Web site.
