John Mayer was hoping for a big end to 2011, with a new record and a number of tour dates on the way. All such plans have been put on hold, however, as the Grammy winner has been diagnosed with granuloma, a throat condition caused by an inflamed nodule near his vocal cords, according to his personal Tumblr blog.
"This is a temporary setback," said the New York-based singer-songwriter. "Though I'm not sure how long or short a period of time it will be. I've got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all clear."
Due to his condition, the "Waiting On The World To Change" singer has been forced to cancel a number of upcoming performances, including Las Vegas' iheartradio music festival and an appearance with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles.
His upcoming fifth studio album, "Born and Raised," has also been postponed from a Fall 2011 release to some time next year. On the bright side, the record is nearly complete aside from Mayer's missing vocals, with the music recording, mixing, and song selecting almost done.
