Sam Taylor-Wood's "Nowhere Boy" will signal the end of this year's Times BFI London Film Festival, organizers said Monday.
Taylor-Wood's debut feature, which centers on the early life and times of John Lennon, has been chosen to close the festival that runs Oct. 14-29.
The British event will be bookended with world premieres; organizers said in July that the fest will open with Wes Anderson's "Fantastic Mr. Fox."
Taylor-Wood's movie details Lennon's childhood in 1950s Liverpool and his relationship with his mother and his aunt.
Written by Matt Greenhalgh, the picture stars newcomer Aaron Johnson as Lennon, Kristin Scott Thomas as Lennon's aunt Mimi and Anne-Marie Duff as his mother, Julia.
The film was produced by Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae for Ecosse Films and Kevin Loader and is backed by Film4, the U.K. Film Council's Premiere Fund, NorthWest Vision and Media, Lip Sync Prods. and Aver Media.
Icon Film Distribution will release the film in the U.K. in December, and the Weinstein Co. has U.S. rights.
"Less a biopic and more a love story, 'Nowhere Boy' is as accomplished as it is moving, and will ensure the festival ends on a high note," festival artistic director Sandra Hebron said.
Taylor-Wood, who said she was pleased her first film will debut in a city where she grew up, added: "For the past year I have lived and breathed this film. It's been one of the most transforming experiences of my life."
