Jo Dee Messina

Veteran country singer Jo Dee Messina is scaling back this spring for a two and a half week tour dubbed the "Music Room Series." Messina intends for the tour, which is modeled on her home recording studio, to give her fans a more intimate experience with her and her music and thus will incorporate a large audience-participation dynamic into each night.

"They know the music, but I want the audience to get to know me," Messina tells Billboard.com. "They get to ask questions, they get to request songs. They become part of the show and no two shows will be the same. Certain people might want to hear songs I wrote but have never recorded and some might just want to hear the hits. It's going to be really interesting - I designed the tour mainly for people to visit with me."

Used to playing much bigger venues, Messina is taking an acoustic approach this time out. Also a recent mother, Messina describes her living room candidly: "It looks like a living room with a piano in it. There are pillows and notebooks and at this point a diaper changing table. But we won't bring that on the road with us."

Messina is currently awaiting the release of her sixth studio album, "Unmistakable," on Curb. The first single from her new set is entitled "Shine."
