Jay-Z's "Run This Town" (Roc Nation/Universal), featuring Rihanna and Kanye West, powered straight to the top of the new U.K. singles chart yesterday (Sunday), while Arctic Monkeys' "Humbug" (Domino) retained leadership of the album survey for a second week ahead of an improbable challenge by 92-year-old British wartime entertainer Dame Vera Lynn.

"Run This Town," Jay-Z's first British chart-topping single, entered the countdown ahead of Sugababes' "Get Sexy" (Universal Island), which was new at No. 2, the trio's 16th U.K. top ten hit. Kings of Leon once again underlined their massive popularity in the territory, their televised performances at the Reading and Leeds Festival last weekend resulting in a 33-6 revival for the former No. 1 "Sex On Fire" (Hand Me Down/Sony Music Entertainment), now in its 50th chart week. "Use Somebody" also bounced back, 62-36, while the parent album "Only By The Night," already quintuple platinum for U.K. shipments of 1.5 million copies, jumped 22-4.

The next highest singles chart debut, at No. 12, was "Chillin" (Interscope/Universal) by Wale featuring Lady GaGa, with Booty Luv's "Say It" (Hed Kandi) arriving at No. 16.

"Humbug" leads the album list again ahead of "We'll Meet Again - The Very Best of Vera Lynn" (Decca/Universal), which raced 20-2 in its second chart week. Released for the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, the compilation makes Dame Vera the oldest living artist to have a U.K. hit album.

Among newer names riding the chart, Noah and the Whale's "The First Day of Spring" (Vertigo/Universal) entered at No. 16 and Friendly Fires' self-titled XL Recordings album at No. 21, as its single "Kiss of Life" debuted at No. 30.

"Humbug" (Domino) also becomes the British modern rock band's first No. 1 on Billboard's European Top 100 Albums chart. Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies)" is relegated to No. 3, but the Interscope/Universal act saw the single "I Gotta Feeling" move 2-1 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.
