The soundtrack will be led by first single "Kick Some Ass" by Cherry/Universal act Stroke 9. The song is also slated to appear on Stroke 9's Jerry Harrison-produced self-titled second album, due in the fall. That set will be the follow up to 1999's "Nasty Little Thoughts," which spawned the single "Little Black Backpack," a No. 6 hit on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart.
The single will be released to rock radio July 3. A supporting video for "Kick Some Ass" will be directed by Gregory Dark (Linkin Park, Crazytown), and feature the film's title characters.
Due for U.S. theatrical release Aug. 24, Dimension Films' "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" is the final film in Smith's series of New Jersey chronicles, following "Clerks," "Mallrats," and "Chasing Amy." The film stars Jason Mewes and Smith as Jay and Silent Bob, respectively, reprised from the three aforementioned films, as well as 1999's "Dogma."
The film also features Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, George Carlin, Shannen Doherty, and Alanis Morissette, possibly again playing "God," as she did in "Dogma." A host of entertainment figures will show up in cameo roles, including Matt Damon, "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, film director Gus Van Sant, Adam Carolla, E! personality Steve Kmetko, and Day, who first gained recognition when he and his band appeared in Prince's 1984 film "Purple Rain."
