"Janet Jackson is one of today's premier entertainers, and a favorite of our subscribers," HBO senior vice president of original programming Nancy Geller said in a statement. "Her spectacular show continues HBO's tradition of presenting the biggest and best music." David Mallet, who directed the 1998 special, will be on board for the forthcoming taping.
Jackson will be the fourth artist in a year to host a concert special on HBO. Bruce Springsteen culled tapings of several New York shows for his April special, while Madonna's Detroit stop on her Drowned World tour was broadcast live in August. Britney Spears will follow suit on Sunday (Nov. 18) with her own show live from Las Vegas.
Jackson's latest Virgin album, "All for You," is No. 98 in its 29th week on The Billboard 200. The set's latest single, "Son of a Gun" featuring Missy Elliott, P. Diddy, and Carly Simon opened at No. 72 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 chart.
As previously reported, look for a special boxed set edition of "All for You" in stores on Tuesday (Nov. 20). The new version features the previously released album bolstered with Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis and P. Diddy remixes of "Son of a Gun," as well as a bonus DVD with 15 music videos and a 24-page booklet of photos from Jackson's All for You world tour.
