Jackson Completes Charity Single

Comments

Michael Jackson has completed work on "What More Can I Give," a new single he hopes will raise $50 million for relief organizations in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Among the artists who have contributed to the track are Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Carlos Santana, Destiny's Child's Beyonce Knowles, Usher, Luis Miguel, and Brian McKnight. No release date or label affiliation has yet been announced.

"I believe in my heart that the music community will come together as one and rally to the aid of thousands of innocent victims," Jackson said in a statement. "There is a tremendous need for relief dollars right now and through this effort each one of us can play an immediate role in helping comfort so many people."

"We have demonstrated time and again that music can touch our souls," he added. "It is time we used that power to help us begin the process of healing immediately."

Other acts that contributed their talents to the recording -- which will be released in both English and Spanish -- include Ricky Martin, Tom Petty, Julio Iglesias, Reba McEntire, Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter and his younger brother Aaron, Luther Vandross, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, Mya, John Secada, Billy Gilman, Boyz II Men's Shawn Stockman, Alejandro Sanz, Christian Castro, Olga Tanon, Anastascia, Juan Gabriel, Thalia, Ziggy Marley, and 3LW.

Jackson will perform Sunday (Oct. 21) as part of the United We Stand - What More Can I Give? benefit, to be held at Washington, D.C.'s RFK Stadium. His new Epic album, "Invincible," arrives Oct. 30.
