The J. Geils Band is hitting the road for its first concerts in 16 years. Frontman Peter Wolf will be back on stage with original mates Seth Justman, J. Geils, Danny Klein, and Magic Dick as they kick off 17 shows at 15 U.S. venues with dates June 23-24 at Boston's Great Woods. Other stops include the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J.; Jones Beach in Wantagh, N.Y.; and amphitheaters in Detroit, Cincinnati, and Washington, D.C.
In a 16-year career that ended in 1983, the Boston-based band had 10 top 40 songs on the Hot 100 Singles chart, including its biggest hit, "Centerfold," which was No. 1 for six weeks beginning in November 1981. The song appeared on the EMI America album "Freeze Frame," which reigned at No. 1 on the Billboard pop albums chart for four weeks in late 1981.
