British metal mainstay Iron Maiden scores a No. 1 debut on Billboard's European Albums chart with "The Final Frontier" (EMI), while on European Hot 100 Singles "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment) by Shakira featuring Freshlyground leads the way for a fifth straight week.

Just under four years ago, Maiden's last studio album "A Matter of Life and Death" entered the pan-European chart at the top, and the new set repeats the feat with no fewer than 11 No. 1 debuts around the region.

EMI today (Aug. 26) confirmed that the album has debuted at No. 1 in 21 countries around the world.

In the United Kingdom, it becomes their fourth chart-topping album over a span of 28 years, with sales of 44,000 showing quite some consistency there, at some 200 units higher than "Death." The new title also starts at the summit in Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal and the Czech Republic; it's in the top three in Holland and Ireland and climbs 6-2 and 4-2 in the Belgian regions of Flanders and Wallony respectively.

Eminem's "Recovery" (Interscope/Universal) is thus down 1-2 overall, as it is in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Austria, but it makes that move in reverse in Ireland. From it, "Love The Way You Lie," featuring Rihanna, holds at No. 3 on European Hot 100 Singles. Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" (Merge/Mercury/Universal), new at No. 1 Europe-wide two weeks ago, slips 2-3, losing its last No. 1 berth (to Eminem) in Ireland.

David Guetta holds at No. 4 on the composite tally with "One Love" (Virgin/EMI), holding at No. 1 in Hungary but falling 1-2 in Spain. It's up 9-6 in Portugal, 11-9 in Italy and 25-20 in the Czech Republic. Lady Gaga's "The Fame" (Interscope/Universal) dips 3-5 on aggregate, despite a 9-8 in Holland.

Down one place each Europe-wide are Plan B's "The Defamation of Strickland Banks" (679/Atlantic/Warner Music), at No. 6, and Unheilig's "Grosse Freiheit" (Universal) at No. 7. Plan B is down 3-4 in the United Kingdom; Unheilig loses its crown in Germany to Iron Maiden.

A-ha's career retrospective "25" (Warner Bros./Warner Music) retains its No. 8 European debut position, adding a No. 9 debut in Norway and a 9-8 climb in Switzerland. Muse is down 7-9 on European Albums with "The Resistance" (Helium 3/Warner Music), which is down 2-4 in France but up 5-4 in Portugal, but the collective top 10 has a newcomer at No. 10, British female pop band the Saturdays' "Headlines" (Polydor/Universal). It's in at No. 3 in the United Kingdom on sales of 22,000, and No. 10 in Ireland.

Shakira fends off all comers on European Hot 100 Singles as "Waka Waka" climbs 3-1 in Flanders, 2-1 in Wallony, 4-2 in Hungary, 3-2 in Norway, 4-3 in Holland and continues at No. 1 in France, Italy and Spain. The big climber on the pan-European singles chart is "I Like It" (Interscope/Universal) by Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull, up 24-4 in its ninth week. Its new conquest is France, where it arrives at No. 2.
