Indie Stars On Tap For Noise Pop Festt

San Francisco's Noise Pop Festival will kick off its ninth year Feb. 27, presenting indie rock fans with six days of diverse musical choices. Among the artists who will play various clubs throughout the city are Girls Against Boys, Creeper Lagoon, Superchunk, Young Fresh Fellows, Beulah, and returning for the ninth straight year, the Fastbacks.

Other artists who have signed on include Mark Eitzel, the Minus 5, Bright Eyes, Spoon, Pedro The Lion, Crooked Fingers, and local favorites Grandaddy. Additional acts will be announced soon.

The Noise Pop Festival was founded in 1993 by Jordan Kurland and Kevin Arnold, fans who wanted to give greater exposure to the music they enjoyed. This year, the Bay Area gathering has grown to encompass more styles of music and include more bands, and for the first time, concurrent shows that will compete for the attention of attendees.

The 2001 version will also encompass the second Noise Pop Film Festival, featuring music documentaries and shorts. Another returning event will be the Noise Pop Educational Series, a mentoring session where musicians and music industry figures share advice with attendees.

As it did last year, the festival will be reprised with a Chicago edition May 9-13. For more information on either the San Francisco or Chicago event, visit the official Noise Pop Festival Web site.
