Indie Rockers Beef Up Indie Film Soundtrack

A who's who of the independent rock scene graces the soundtrack to the independent film "Dean Quixote," due out Nov. 20, appropriately, via indie label spinART. The set includes songs by Beachwood Sparks, Bettie Serveert, and the Minders, as well as Guided By Voices, who perform in the film.

"You wouldn't know it to look at what's popular today, but there's a lot of great music being made," Orion Walker and Tricia Halloran, the film's director and music supervisor, respectively, said in a statement. "You won't find them on commercial radio, mounting stadium tours, or raking in millions, but great bands are out there just the same, making great music and doing it for love. But you'll never hear this music unless you look for it. Or unless you're lucky enough to have a friend that makes you a mix tape and sits you down and says 'you gotta' hear this!'"

Several of the songs are exclusive to the soundtrack, including Rebar's cover of Peter Tosh's legendary reggae anthem "Legalize It," Spink's cover of Palace Music's "New Partner" (from 1995's Drag City album "Viva Last Blues"), and the Bevis Frond's "You Wouldn't If You Knew."

Produced by Victor Simpkins ("Swingers"), "Dean Quixote" premiered at the Just For Laughs film festival in July. The romantic comedy, which stars Brian Poth and Alex Cain, is currently seeking distribution.
