After six weeks on the chart, the soundtrack to Disney's "Hannah Montana" returns to the upper echelon, rebounding 7-2 with 157,000 and a sales decrease of -6%. Chris Daughtry's "Daughtry" (19 Recordings/RCA) falls 2-3 with 156,000 (-49%).
The Sony BMG Strategic Marketing Group/EMI/Universal/Zomba hits compilation "NOW 23" slips 3-4 selling 154,000, a sales dip of 47%. The Beatles' "Love" (Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol) steps down 4-5 with a 46% sales hit at 146,000. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come" descends to No. 6 with a whopping 80% sales decrease to 140,000.
Only two previously released albums in the top 10 experienced a sales increase this week. Sarah McLachlan's Arista holiday album, "Wintersong," shot up 22-7, moving 116,000 copies (+38%). Another holiday-themed set, the "NOW That's What I Call Christmas 3" compilation, moves 24-10 with 102,000 (+31%). It's the first time two Christmas albums are in top 10 of The Billboard 200 since Dec. 29, 2001.
Akon's Universal Motown album "Konvicted" keeps the No. 8 spot warm for a second week with 110,000 and a 33% sales slide. Moving 108,000 copies (-19%), Josh Groban's "Awake" (143/Reprise) climbs back into the top tier 14-9.
Two more albums debut in the top 50 of The Billboard 200 this week. The Clipse's long-awaited sophomore set "Hell Hath No Fury" (RE-Up Gang/Star Trak) bows at No. 14 with 78,000. The Virginia duo's 2002 album "Lord Willin'" started and peaked at No. 4 with 122,000. Another Southern rap troupe, Ying Yang Twins, enters this week at No. 40 with "Chemically Imbalanced" (TVT; 36,000).
Overall, album sales are down 13.3% from last week's count and are down 5.1% compared to the same week a year ago at 14.75 million units. Sales for 2006 are down 5% compared to 2005 at 500.5 million units.
