Several months after its international release, Natalie Imbruglia's sophomore album, "White Lilies Island," will be issued March 5 in North America by RCA. "Island," the follow-up to the former Australian TV soap star's 1998 double-platinum debut, "Left of the Middle," finds Imbruglia taking a much greater role in the songwriting process, with assistance from Gary Clark, Patrick Leonard, Matthew Wilder, and Phil Thornalley, who helped pen Imbruglia's breakthrough single, "Torn."

"I'd rather invest my time in growing as a songwriter than looking for hit songs elsewhere," says Imbruglia, who wrote 64 new songs, only to throw them all away and start over. Album opener "That Day" was released last fall as a single internationally, but the upbeat "Wrong Impression" is the first single in the U.S. The video is currently getting airplay on VH1, while the track is No. 18 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart this week.

Imbruglia will perform on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" March 8, and she will book additional TV appearances around that time. She'll begin a promo tour of U.S. radio stations in April. The artist, who now lives in the U.K., never toured the U.S. to support "Left of the Middle." Neither has she yet announced dates for the new album, but she has begun rehearsing with a five-piece band and says summer stateside dates are likely. She promises that her live show will be "more of a rock thing" than a pop concert, reflecting the new set's "live band feel."

"Left of the Middle" peaked at No. 10 on The Billboard 200 and has sold just shy of 2 million copies in the U.S. to date, according to SoundScan. "Torn" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Top 40, Hot 100 Airplay, and Top 40 Mainstream charts.
