Enrique Iglesias and Coco Lee were named top male and female international artists at the CCTV/MTV Music Awards in Beijing on Sunday (June 18). 23 Asian and international artists were honored during the ceremony, which also featured Alanis Morissette's debut performance in China.
"The event has such cultural and musical diversity," Morissette told The Hollywood Reporter. "The show demonstrates the power of music in offering such an inspiring exchange of culture and emotion."
Other winners included Scandinavian pop outfit Aqua (international band of the year), and Sun Nan and Na Ying (Chinese male and female artists of the year, respectively), Aaron Guo and Sammi Zheng (Hong Kong male and female artists of the year, respectively), and Wang Lee Horn and Shino Lin (Taiwanese male and female artists of the year, respectively).
The ceremony will be broadcast by CCTV beginning Friday (June 23) to over 500 million Chinese households. Portions of the show will air on MTV's global channels, which reach more than 310 million households combined.
