'Idol,' 'SNL' Join 'Glee' with Emmy Nominatons

While Fox's " Glee" led the Emmy nominations for primetime series on Thursday morning with 19, music from "Lost" and "Saturday Night Live" also earned nods, while "American Idol" and "The 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert" scored big in the technical categories.

 

'Glee' Leads Emmy Nominations with 19 Bids

 

"Lost" composer Michael Giacchino completed his awards season sweep with an Emmy nomination for outstanding music composition for a series (original dramatic score), following up his Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy win for the score and soundtrack to Disney/Pixar's "Up."

 

"SNL's" viral hit "Shy Ronnie" -- performed on the show by Rihanna and Andy Samberg -- was nominated for outstanding original music and lyrics.

 

Other music-oriented programming to be nominated included "American Idol," which received six nominations, including one for outstanding host for a reality or reality-competition program for Ryan Seacrest; "The 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert" on HBO received five nominations including one alongside the "Hope for Haiti Now" concert for oustanding variety, music or comedy special. "The Who Super Bowl Halftime Show" on CBS, which was nominated for outstanding art direction for variety, music or nonfiction programming.

 

In addition, the documentary "Patti Smith: Dream of Life" on PBS received a nomination for exceptional merit in nonfiction filmmaking. "The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards" were nominated for outstanding sound mixing for a variety or music series or special and outstanding technical direction, camerawork, video control for a miniseries, movie or a special, while the Sundance Channel's "Spectacle Elvis Costello with Bruce Springsteen" was nominated for outstanding sound mixing for nonfiction programming.

 

The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held August 29 and telecast on NBC; the Creative Arts Awards, where the majority of the music category winners are revealed, will be held August 21.
