Huey Lewis and the News has canceled its scheduled Australian tour.

Promoter Andrew McManus Presents had secured the services of the American pop-rock band for what would have been their first tour of these shores in more than 20 years.

The initial itinerary for the "Still Workin' For a Livin'" tour was meant to kick off in March, but the dates were postponed earlier in the year due to "recording commitments" on the band's ninth studio album, a tribute to Stax Records. Now the shows are off.

In a statement issued by Melbourne-based AMP, the promoter said, "unfortunately due to conflicting schedules and venue logistics neither AMP or band management have been able to reschedule the shows for the remainder of this year."

McManus admits the dates "didn't come strong out of the blocks" in terms of sales for the original dates in March, but he said timing was ultimately to blame.

"Finding the right time to do an artist like Huey was half the problem," McManus tells Billboard. "We had so much on our plate. And by the time he realized his recording timeframe, he couldn't then designate as much time as we needed. We both agreed it was time to push it off and then look at it later."
