Hotlanta To Inaugurate Free Weekly Concert Series

Vertical Horizon, They Might Be Giants, Cowboy Mouth, and Sister Hazel are among the artists headlining during Atlanta's summer-long On the Bricks free weekly concert series. To be held in the city's 21-acre downtown Centennial Olympic Park every Friday from May 25 through Aug. 17 (except July 6), each show will feature a local opening act supporting two national artists.

"I am very honored to help launch the resurgence of downtown Atlanta," promoter Marcie Allen says of the series, which is presented by local radio outlet WNNX (99X) and will kick off each week at 6 p.m. and wrap by the city's 11 p.m. curfew.

Prior to its summer stint opening for the Barenaked Ladies, Vertical Horizon will headline the June 15 event, with TMBG lined up for June 29, New Orleans-based Cowboy Mouth on July 13, and Sister Hazel on July 20. The full slate of artists will be announced May 9, following the completion of Atlanta's three-day Music Midtown festival. Full information will be posted on the event's official Web site.

The On the Bricks festival is patterned after Nashville's Dancin' in the District concert series, now in its ninth year. That event, which Allen's Mad Booking also promotes, is held each Thursday, May 17-Aug. 9 (except June 14 due to the annual Fan Fair festival) in Music City's Riverfront Park. Sister Hazel (May 17), TMBG (June 28), and Cowboy Mouth (July 5) will all appear during that series, along with the Radiators (May 24), Robert Earl Keen (May 31), Patti Griffin (June 7), Rodney Crowell (June 21), WAR (July 12), and the Derek Trucks Band (July 19).
