Historic Beach Boys Concert Comes Home

Comments

A 1980 concert by the Beach Boys will be released on CD March 4 from Eagle Records, with a DVD/VHS release to follow later in the month. "Good Timin' -- Live at Knebworth, England 1980" documents the last concert that the five original Beach Boys -- Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine -- would play together in the U.K. Occasional member Bruce Johnston also performed at the show.

The concert was recorded for a planned live album and TV special that never materialized, but now the original audio and video tapes have been partnered in their entirety for the upcoming release. Eagle Vision will release "Live at Knebworth" March 25 on DVD/VHS.

The concert found the Beach Boys reprising a number of their classic hits -- "Fun, Fun, Fun," "Surfer Girl," "Good Vibrations," and "I Get Around" -- in the midst of cuts from timely albums like "L.A. (Light Album)" ("Lady Lynda," "Good Timin'") and "Keepin' the Summer Alive" (the title track).

The original Beach Boys began drifting apart in the years following the concert. Brian left the band in 1982, and Dennis died in a drowning accident the following year. More recently, Love and Jardine have wrangled in court over rights to the Beach Boys name.
