Hard rock outfit Hinder has linked with Madpackers.com to headline the inaugural Door to Dorm tour, which visits 17 college campuses and three music festivals across the United States starting March 16 in South Padre, Texas. Supporting on select dates are Papa Roach and Puddle Of Mudd.
Following the spring break kickoff gig, Hinder will sneak away for a two-week European jaunt before returning Stateside to resume the Door to Dorm on April 13. The five-week trek hits 3,000- to 5,000-capacity venues in a concerted effort to connect with college students, says the Agency Group's Ken Fermaglich, who books Hinder worldwide with Steve Kaul.
"The strategy was to seek out and find as many different college campus shows in secondary and/or tertiary markets to get directly on campuses," Fermaglich tells Billboard.com. "We decided a few months ago that we wanted to play college campuses this spring. We consummated a deal based around the fact that Hinder had this vision to play college campuses."
Madpackers.com is a company that picks up students' packed belongings and drops them off at dormitories before school starts. For Door to Dorm concerts that don't visit campus venues, efforts will be made to do tie-in marketing with surrounding universities in the market to offer a limited number of discounted tickets to students, Fermaglich says. Ticket prices range from $20-$25.
Hinder has been hitting the road hard in recent months. In February, the Oklahoma City-based quintet finished a club/theater tour in support of its 2005 debut "Extreme Behavior," which has sold 2.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album has spawned such radio hits as "Lips of an Angel" and "Better Than Me."
Summer plans for Hinder include a May 19 performance at Ohio's Rock on the Range festival, followed by a June visit to Europe to play "some of the bigger festivals," Fermaglich says. The band returns to the States from July-September for a headline tour, with a week carved out for a stint to Japan. Then it's off to Australia in early October. "It's a pretty intense schedule," Fermaglich says, "not a lot of days off."
Hinder will likely return to the studio in January to record new material.
