Haggard, Stuart Lead 'Barnyard' Tour

Comments

Marty Stuart will shepherd a six-act country music festival through America's heartland beginning July 6 in Sierra Vista, Ariz. The two-month Electric Barnyard Tour will also feature Merle Haggard, BR5-49, Connie Smith, Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, and the Old Crow Medicine Show.

Sponsored by Waffle House, CMT, and WSM Radio, the event is described by Stuart and Haggard as part tent-show, part honky-tonk. The schedule will eschew large markets in favor of small towns and rural areas. "We're going back to remember the forgotten ones," Haggard said in a statement.

Ticket prices will be kept to a low $25 in advance and $30 at the door, with music slated to start at 6 p.m., two hours after gates open. Interactive attractions such as bungee jumping and mechanical bulls will also be part of the festival, as will food vendors.

Stuart will be out in support of his latest album, "Country Music," due July 1 via Sony Nashville. As part of the sponsorship, his single "If There Ain't There Oughta Be" will be featured on jukeboxes in 1,400 Waffle House outlets in 26 states.

Haggard has been added to the bill for Willie Nelson's two-day Fourth of July Picnic in Spicewood, Texas. He'll be playing July 4 along with fellow veteran artists Nelson, Ray Price, Leon Russell, and the Dead, as well as Toby Keith, Pat Green, and others.
