Guns 'N Roses, Beck, Tool For Roskilde 2001

Guns 'N Roses, Beck, Tool, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Robbie Williams are among the acts confirmed to appear at this year's Roskilde Festival, to be held June 28-July 1 about 30 miles west of Copenhagen. Other performers include Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Filur, Hammerfall, Hakan Hellstrom, JJ72, Mayhem, and Ski Oakenfull.

Roskilde, first staged in 1970, is the world's longest-running outdoor music event. Last year's edition was tragically marred when nine people died as the result of a crowd crush during Pearl Jam's performance. Organizers claim that all possible measures have been taken to prevent a repeat of last summer's events.

An investigation ordered by the Danish Justice Ministry late last year concluded that despite poor communications among volunteer security people and uncertainty about the chain of command, the festival could not be held responsible for the deaths. The report concluded that the deaths were caused
by "a combination of unfortunate circumstances and violent audience behavior."

In the past few years, Roskilde has trimmed the number of tickets on sale to the public from around 90,000 to 75,000.
