Grand Ole Opry To Stage Sept. 11 Benefit

Vince Gill, Steve Wariner, and Marty Stuart are among the country artists who will participate in the Grand Ole Opry's benefit for families of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the U.S. Set for Nov. 11 at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium, the event will also feature Bill Anderson, Little Jimmy Dickens, and Porter Wagoner, with others to be added.

The planned two-and-a-half hour show, which will honor the fallen heroes and victims of the Sept. 11 tragedies, will air live on WSM (650 AM) and the official Grand Ole Opry Web site, opry.com,

Tickets ranging from $25-$50 are available via the Opry Web site and 615-871-OPRY. Event producer Gaylord Entertainment has pledged to donate proceeds from the show to unspecified relief efforts.

"The Opry and country music are true icons of the American spirit," Gaylord president/CEO Colin V. Reed said in a statement. "We felt a benefit Opry show is the perfect place and way for us to come together and support the victims of the tragedy."

In other country benefit news, Trisha Yearwood and Hank Williams Jr. have been added to the lineup for the Country Freedom Concert, set for Sunday (Oct. 21) in Nashville. They join previously announced performers Gill, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, and others. CMT will broadcast the show from 8-10:30 p.m. ET.
