Gospel music legend Bob MacKenzie died Friday (Oct. 20) in his Brentwood, Calif., home from apparent heart failure, Billboard Bulletin reports. He was 62. MacKenzie produced multiple Dove and Grammy-winning albums, for such artists as the Bill Gaither Trio, the Cathedrals, and the Oak Ridge Boys. He also signed Michael W. Smith to his first songwriting contract.
The Worcester, Mass., native -- a former chairman of the Gospel Music Association's board of directors -- will be posthumously inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame on Monday (Oct. 30). A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Oct. 25) in Nashville.
