Gipsy Kings, Maceo For Aspen Jazz Fest

World music veterans the Gipsy Kings, Colorado rockers Big Head Todd & the Monsters, saxophonist Maceo Parker, and reggae artist Alpha Blondy will headline the Janus Jazz Aspen festival this Labor Day weekend in Snowmass Village, Colo., near Aspen. Parker, known for his work with James Brown, will kick off the festival on Friday, Aug. 31, while Blondy will wrap the four-day event with a Monday evening performance.

Other performers at the fest will include such funk-inspired acts as Galactic and Angelique Kidjo, more rock-leaning artists like G Love and Special Sauce, Vinyl, and Ozomatli, West African performer Habib Koite, jazzy jam band Soulive, and reggae group Steel Pulse.

This is the second of two annual summer Janus Jazz Aspen festivals, the first of which was held in June. Tickets are on sale now; for more information, visit the event's official Web site.
