Gaye, Marley Live Again On Euro Charts

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell are the latest artists to prove that death cannot wither their continuing airplay appeal. With John Lennon's "Imagine" a major U.K. hit for a third time in recent weeks, and Bob Marley illuminating European sales and radio charts with various releases, the late Motown duo's 1967 hit "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" has become a top-5 airplay hit in Spain on the Epic label, following its use in a Movistar campaign by telecommunications company Telefonica.

Gaye and Terrell's original version of the song reached No. 3 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 19 on the Billboard pop singles chart.

The wave of "new" European releases by Marley, meanwhile, shows no signs of abating. The reggae legend rated No. 9 on Music & Media's Top Singles Artists of 1999 chart, thanks to Funkstar Deluxe's remix of "Sun Is Shining" (Hynotic/Club Tools), and his posthumous "duet" with Lauryn Hill, "Turn Your Lights Down Low" (Columbia).

Another Funkstar Deluxe remix, "Rainbow Country," is No. 17 on M&M's Border Breakers chart this week and bubbling under its European Radio Top 50. Yet another Marley single, "Put It On (Again)," a remix of a 1971 track, will be released in the U.K. by Joe Boy on Jan. 17.
