A little more than a day after a brutal street attack that sent him to a hospital with a concussion and a banged-up face, "I Don't Want to Be" crooner Gavin DeGraw is back home and thanking fans for their support.

"Hi my friends," he wrote on Twitter on Tuesday evening. "Honestly, I don't remember much. I only know I can recover from here."

DeGraw, 34, suffered a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises following an altercation with a "group of assailants" in the early hours of Monday, his rep confirmed in a statement to Billboard.com. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital by ambulance and was listed in stable condition until his release Tuesday afternoon.

The attack occurred on First Ave. between 5th and 6th Streets shortly after DeGraw left a nearby club he owns with his brother. He was attacked by three male assailants, a police source tells the Hollywood Reporter, and he then stumbled farther north on First ave. and was hit by a cab 13 blocks away.

He was not seriously injured in that collision but a witness called for help and DeGraw was taken to the hospital.

The hook-happy singer had been scheduled to perform with Maroon 5 and Train on tour this weekend, but a rep for the singer tells Billboard that he'll need time to recover. Any additional tour changes will be announced later.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine made it clear DeGraw would be missed on tour. "We love you buddy," he wrote on Twitter. "Get well and get back out here!"

DeGraw, a 3-time Hot 100 charter, also had to cancel a scheduled performance on "Live! With Regis and Kelly" on Wednesday to promote his upcoming album, "Sweeter," which hits stores Sept. 20. He recently spoke to Billboard.com about changing up his writing process for the new album.
