Galaxie 500 Captures 'Youth' On DVD

Seminal alternative rock trio Galaxie 500 will be celebrated with the double-DVD set "Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste (1987-1991)," due June 29 via Plexifilm. The collection sports more than three hours of live performances culled from eight different shows, including two full concerts from London and Atlanta. Also features are music videos for "Tugboat," "When Will You Come Home, "Blue Thunder" and "Fourth of July."

Among the performance oddities are covers of Joy Division's "Ceremony," the Velvet Underground's "Here She Comes Now" and Jonathan Richman's "Back in Your Life," plus the previously unreleased original "Buzz in My Head." The footage is drawn from as far back as a March 1988 show in Cambridge, Mass., to a full November 1990 show at the University of London.

The DVD will sport a deluxe booklet featuring new interviews with group members Dean Wareham, Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang conducted by Yo La Tengo's James McNew.

Galaxie 500 split in 1991 after releasing three acclaimed albums. Wareham went on to form Luna, while Krukowski and Yang have recorded as Damon & Naomi. The group's recorded output was previously collected on a self-titled 1996 Rykodisc boxed set.
