'Friends' Rework, Play With Stars' 'Fire'

Members of Broken Social Scene, the Dears, Junior Boys, the Stills and Metric are among the artists reworking every song from Stars' 2004 album "Set Yourself on Fire." The project is dubbed "Do You Trust Your Friends?" and is due May 22 via Arts & Crafts.

"We're hoping that they will bring us something that will make us look at the songs a little differently," Stars principal Torquil Campbell told Billboard.com about the concept in 2005. "And they are all people who listened to the record a lot and are all close friends of ours, so it's kind of an interesting experiment from our point of view. It's kind of like saying to your friends, 'If you were going to decorate our apartment, how would you do it? Using all of the things that are in there, how would you rearrange the furniture and what color would you paint the walls?'"

"Set Yourself on Fire" brought Stars to a new level of international visibility. The set reached No. 34 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and No. 40 on the Top Independent Albums tally.

The band is presently in Vancouver recording the as-yet-untitled follow-up to "Set Yourself on Fire," due in the fall.
