The foot-and-mouth epidemic in the United Kingdom has caused the Bishopstock Music Festival -- one of the largest and most respected blues festivals in Europe -- to be postponed. The 2001 event was scheduled for May 26-28 at the Bishop's Court Palace near Devon in England's west country, and has been rescheduled, until further notice, to Aug. 26-28.
Performers who were scheduled to appear include Ray Charles, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Shemekia Copeland, Susan Tedeschi, Joe Louis Walker, Koko Taylor, and the Delta Blues Cartel, which comprises Robert Lockwood Jr., Homesick James, Henry Townsend, and Honeyboy Edwards. It is unknown if the lineup will carry over to the new dates.
