Female Artists Set For V-Day Benefit

Hip-hop artist Eve, R&B singer Amel Larrieux, mezzo soprano Denyce Graves, and inspirational female a capella ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock will take part in V-Day Harlem 2002, a benefit for community-based organizations that are dedicated to stopping violence against women. As with past V-Day events, much of the March 30 performance at New York's legendary Apollo Theatre will stem from Eve Ensler's play "The Vagina Monologues." Music and dance will also be represented, and Eve is expected to perform "Love Is Blind," a song about domestic violence, from her 1999 debut, "First Lady of Ruff Ryders."

V-Day Harlem 2002 is being produced by actors Lisa Gay Hamilton ("Ally McBeal") and Rosie Perez ("Riding in Cars With Boys"). The performance will feature a laundry list of female celebrities, including Naomi Campbell, Salma Hayek, Angie Martinez, Lynn Whitfield, Kim Coles, and Cynthia Garrett, among others.

While lower-priced seats are sold-out, $250 tickets are available via Ticketmaster. $500 and $1,000 tickets are available by calling 212-252-3136. The New York event will specifically benefit the African American Task Force on Violence Against Women in Central Harlem, the Dominican Women's Development Center, the Violence Intervention Program, and Sakhi.

According to organizers, more than 800 V-Day 2002 benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues" are taking place around the world through April 20. For more information, visit the official V-Day Web site.
