Contrary to published reports casting doubt on the project, U2 will offer members of its Propaganda fan club a live album recorded during its marathon "Popmart" world tour. The disc comes as fans anxiously await a new U2 studio album, which is currently in production and due out in the fall.
The 14 tracks that make up "Hasta La Vista Baby! Live From Mexico City" -- which will only be available to fan club members and will not be released commercially -- were taken from a 1998 home video release of the same name. The album will be sent to Propaganda members within the next week or so, according to a U.K. representative for the band.

In 1995, U2 issued "Melon," its first fan club-only release, comprised of remixes from its "Achtung Baby" and "Zooropa" albums. The band has a history of live releases, dating back to 1983's eight-song "Under A Blood Red Sky," plus the half-live 1985 EP "Wide Awake In America," and 1988's "Rattle And Hum," the companion album to the performance/documentary film of the same name.
As previously reported, U2 recently launched a new Web site where fans will be able to watch the band in the studio. "Up 'til now we've felt that there was so much high quality U2 information on sites run by fans that we shouldn't add to it unless we could do something significantly different," guitarist the Edge said in a statement. "But now, with technological advancements, we're in a position to offer something unique."
The current online destination is only a small part of what the band plans to offer its fans online, as a full launch of the Web site is planned for September.
A specific release date has not been set for the as-yet-unnamed album, although lead singer Bono revealed to the BBC's Radio 1 last week that the first single from the set is titled "Beautiful Day."
In other news, Bono has donated two items that are currently being auctioned online for charity via Irish auction site ebid.ie. The first, his 1980 double bumper Mercedes 450SL, will be on the block until Thursday (July 28) at 11:49 a.m. GMT (7:49 a.m. EDT). Proceeds from the auction -- which had a top bid of £13,600 (approx. $20, 662) at deadline -- will benefit Emergency Aid to Ethopia.
The second item, a pair of Diesel sunglasses autographed by the singer during the October 1999 NetAid concert at New Jersey's Giants Stadium, will be up for bidding through Monday (July 31) at 3 p.m. GMT (11 a.m. EDT). Proceeds from the sale of the glasses will benefit the West Waterford Hospice charity. At deadline, the top bid for the item was £215 (approx. $326).
