Faithfull Going Orchestral For U.K. Fest

Marianne Faithfull will unveil "Symphony Under the Spire," collaboration between the Sarum Orchestra, a 60-voice choir and her band, when she headlines the U.K.'s Salisbury International Arts Festival 2005.

Commissioned by the festival, the June 11 concert will be overseen by musical director/composer Howard Moody, who is providing new orchestral arrangements for a number of notable songs from Faithfull's 41-year career in the public eye.

The artist will perform "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" and the Jagger/Richards song with which she made her chart debut in 1964, "As Tears Go By." She is also expected to perform the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday" and Elton John and Bernie Taupin's "For Wanting You," which Faithfull recorded for her "Vagabond Ways" album in 1999. The set will additionally feature "Last Song," written by Blur/Gorillaz member Damon Albarn for her 2004 release "Before the Poison."

The concert is the climax of the Salisbury International Arts Festival's 17 days and nights of performance, literature and art. "I'm really excited about this event," Faithfull says. "You never know quite what the result of new collaborations like this will be but I'm enormously confident that 'Symphony Under the Spire' will turn out to be an amazing spectacle."
