Ex-Mazzy Star Vocalist Preps Solo Debut

Comments

Former Mazzy Star vocalist Hope Sandoval will release her debut solo album, "Bavarian Fruit Bread," on Oct. 23 via Sanctuary/Rough Trade. The album features instrumental contributions from Colm O'Ciosoig, known for his drum work on My Bloody Valentine's seminal albums "Isn't Anything" and "Loveless." The pair collaborated on Sandoval's four-song EP, "At the Doorway Again," released last year.

Prior to that release, Sandoval had been absent from the music world in the four years since Mazzy Star's "Among My Swan" album (Capitol), which peaked at No. 68 on The Billboard 200 and sold 214,000 copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan. The group is perhaps best known for the single "Fade Into You," which hit No. 3 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 44 on The Billboard Hot 100 in 1994. Its three studio albums have sold more than 1.5 million units to date.

"At the Doorway Again," described as "a deep breath of air and light," will not be supported by a tour, according to a spokesperson for Sandoval.
