Erika Jo Named Third 'Nashville Star'

Erika Jo Heriges, an 18-year-old high school senior, was named the winner of the USA Network talent series "Nashville Star" last night (April 26) during a live broadcast from Nashville.

Her prizes include a recording contract with Universal South Records and an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry. She will also perform tomorrow on NBC's "Today" morning show when it broadcasts from Nashville.

Heriges has one month to record her debut album, which she plans to finish before finals and graduation. It will be released June 14.

Her debut single, "I Break Things," was digitally delivered to country radio immediately after the show wrapped last night. Heriges performed the song, written by Wade Kirby and Monty Criswell, during the show's finale.

Heriges, from the Nashville suburb of Mount Juliet, Tenn., is the first woman to win "Nashville Star," now in its third season. She is also the youngest contestant ever to compete on the show. Despite her age, she has been performing with her father's band for 13 years. She does not use her last name professionally.

This summer she will embark on a national tour with the three "Nashville Star" runners-up, Jason Meadows, Jody Evans and Jayron Weaver.
