Elton John

Elton John is to be the subject of a biopic entitled, "Rocketman." Newspapers and industry websites have reported the film will be produced by Steve Hamilton Shaw, as well as John's partner David Furnish (pictured beside John), according to a Reuters report.

John, whose hits include "Tiny Dancer" and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," will executive produce the film himself while playwright Lee Hall, who collaborated with John on "Billy Elliot," will draft the script.

"Rocketman" promises to be a rather unconventional biopic, which Shaw describes as "non-linear" and "hyper visual."

Thus far, no actor has been confirmed for the lead role, however, the Sun tabloid has claimed that Scottish actor James McAvoy ("Atonement," "X-Men: First Class") is an early favorite.

John, Furnish, and Shaw have previously collaborated on the 3D film "Gnomeo and Juliet," which grossed $190 million worldwide following its February 2011 release.

News of "Rocketman" project first surfaced to the public earlier this year.
