Singer/musician Doyle Bramhall Sr., who collaborated with a number of notable Texas musicians, died at 62 at his home in Alpine, Texas on Sunday (Nov. 13). The cause of death was not immediately known.
According to the Austin Chronicle, Bramhall began his career in the 1960s with the blues-rock group the Chessmen, who became popular in the Dallas area. "Breakfast with Jimi Hendrix, lunch with Keith Moon, and dinner with Janis Joplin," says Bramhall in a 2003 interview.
He then moved on to the Nightcrawlers, where he collaborated with Jimmie Vaughn and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Bramhall scored writing credits on Vaughn songs like "Lookin' Out the Window" and "The House is Rockin'." Bramhall released three solo albums beginning in 1994, most recently issuing "Is It News" in 2007.
Bramhall is survived by his wife, Barbara Logan, daughter Georgia and his son, acclaimed musician Doyle Bramhall II.
