Doves Pull Out Of Coachella

U.K. rock act Doves has been forced to cancel its appearance this weekend at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., as vocalist/bassist Jimi Goodwin is suffering from severely strained vocal chords.

The group has also pulled out of at least the first eight shows of its upcoming North American tour with Mercury Rev, which was due to begin Sunday (May 1) in San Francisco. According to a spokesperson, the trek will likely resume on May 13 in Chicago or the following night in Detroit. The band is still booked to perform its new single, "Snowden," on May 19 on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien."

"I've been told to rest my vocals for two to three weeks," Goodwin writes on Doves' official Web site. "Coachella aside, it's postponement not cancellation! We are already tentatively re-scheduling. We're truly gutted but it's got to be right long term."

Doves were to be touring in support of their latest Capitol album, "Some Cities," which debuted last month at No. 111 on The Billboard 200.
