Doors, STP, Dylan Saddle Up For 'Open Road'

The Doors, Stone Temple Pilots, Bob Dylan, and Tim McGraw are among the acts that will perform on select dates for motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson's 100th anniversary Open Road tour. The 10-city trek gets underway July 20-21 in Atlanta with sets from McGraw, Journey, Indigenous, and the Warren Brothers. Dylan, Hootie & the Blowfish, the Wailers, and Ted Nugent will be on hand Aug. 16-18 in Baltimore.

But the most intriguing lineup comes Sept. 6-8 at the California Motor Speedway in Fontana, Calif., with the Doors, Los Lobos, Earl Scruggs, and Joe D'Urso and Stone Caravan. A statement cautions that original drummer John Densmore's participation is "subject to change," but fellow surviving Doors members Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger are set to be joined by the Cult's Ian Astbury on vocals. The surviving members of the Doors have only performed live together on a handful of occasions since frontman Jim Morrison's death in 1971.

Stone Temple Pilots, Nickelback, and Billy Idol will play in Fontana on Sept. 7, while George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, the Doobie Brothers, and Journey will perform the following night. The tour will run through Toronto, Dallas, Mexico City, Barcelona, Sydney, and Tokyo throughout the year and conclude July 25-27, 2003, in Munich.
