DJ Shadow Drops Off Smokin' Grooves

DJ Shadow has dropped out of this year's Smokin' Grooves tour. The critically lauded electronic collage artist was to appear on a string of West Coast dates, but has been forced from participation due to a scheduling conflict, according to his official Web site. Instead, DJ Shadow will add a second string of solo U.S. tour dates, to be announced in the coming weeks, in support of the June 4 release of his sophomore effort, "The Private Press" (MCA).

As previously reported, Shadow will stage a brief U.S. jaunt in June, beginning with a show at New York's Bowery Ballroom to coincide with the album's release and wrapping at a recently added June 12 date at Los Angeles' Mayan Theater. The artist will stage a second run of U.S. dates in mid-July before heading to Japan to perform at the Fuji Rock Festival July 27. Supporting DJ Shadow on the initial U.S. leg will be up-and-coming hip-hop act the Anti-Pop Consortium, touring in support of its latest Warp Records release, "Arrhythmia."

Tracks from "The Private Press" can be sampled on DJ Shadow's Web site. The set is the long-awaited follow-up to his 1996 Mo' Wax debut "Endtroducing," which has sold 228,000 units in the U.S. to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The 1998 singles collection "Preemptive Strike" debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and has sold 147,000 copies to date.

The Smokin' Grooves tour launches July 18 in Mountain View, Calif., and will feature such artists as Outkast, Lauryn Hill, and the Roots. A number of artists will join the bill for various dates, including Jurassic 5 and Cee-Lo. The summer festival runs through early August.
