DJ Krush Revealed On Retrospective DVD

Not much is known in the U.S. about Japan's DJ Krush, but that's set to change with the release of a 3-disc DVD career retrospective on Sept. 18 via Red Ink/Sony. The set documents Krush's expansive career, from his DJ sets at underground parties to his numerous studio collaborations.

"I think it means something to make a DVD that shows how I, as a DJ, have been around the world and perform in front of people with different nationalities," DJ Krush tells Billboard.com. "Also, to show that a DJ is not just someone who always remains in the background of rappers."

Culling from both amateur and professional videography, the DVD includes two documentaries that have long been released in Japan, but are just now commercially available in the U.S. They both depict Krush in his early years, or as he puts it, "This DVD shows how I kept opening my way to the future. Putting the music aspect aside, [to] keep believing and keep going is something I hope viewers would get out of this work."

U.S. viewers also get a rare window into the DJ culture that exists within Tokyo. "In Japan, DJing has become very popular and is considered as a cool job," Krush explains. "There are even DJ schools there. You can get the latest equipments and rare vinyl that you may not find anywhere else in the world. People in Japan are very blessed in that sense."

Although no plans are set for any new material, Krush will kick off a month-long fall tour Oct. 4 in New York.
