A private memorial for DJ AM, born Adam Goldstein, is scheduled for Thursday (Sept. 3) night at 7pm in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium, the same venue Goldstein played alongside rapper Jay-Z in October after surviving a plane crash last year. Goldstein died on Friday (Aug. 28) at the age of 36 in New York of an apparent drug overdose.

According to an MTV report, an invitation describes the event as "a gathering to celebrate the life of our friend Adam Goldstein." The memorial will pay tribute to Goldstein's struggle with addiction, with a format-style of an open 12-step meeting.

At the time of his death, Goldstein was wrapping work on the MTV series "Gone Too Far," in which the DJ, who claimed 11 years of sobriety under his belt, worked to help other addicts overcome their addictions. The network has not yet announced plans for the show moving forward.

But it seems Goldstein recently relapsed, as authorities investigating his death found that he had eight undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach and a ninth in his mouth, according to PEOPLE.

"He wanted to die," a source told the magazine, who says the findings suggest Goldsteing swallowed the powerful painkillers quickly. "He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn't even swallow it."

In addition to OxyContin, the source says, authorities who entered his apartment found a Valentine's Day card in the next from Haley Wood, his model girlfriend. Rumors had it the pair had recently split, but Wood denies the allegations. The card read, "Thank God you're in my life. I love you," and laid on top of Goldstein's laptop, next to seven photos of Wood and himself.

In addition to the OxyContin pills, a crack pipe was also found next to Goldstein's body. According to the source, when authorities moved the body, crack was found underneath. Goldstein "smoked a lot of crack, barricaded the doors and killed himself," says the source.

Goldstein's family has asked fans to not send flowers in his honor, but to donate to two of his favorite charities. A note posted on the DJ's MySpace page explains, "We appreciate the kind words and support for Adam over the past few days. Due to your inquiries, in lieu of flowers, AM's family would like to suggest making donations to the following charitable organizations: National MS Society, Southern California Chapter, or Friendly House."

The official autopsy results, including toxicology tests, have not been released. Sources close to Goldstein still believe his death was accidental.
