Walt Disney Studios/Walden Media and EMI Music are teaming to create two soundtracks for "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." To be released separately in the fall, one set will feature pop and rock artists performing music inspired by the live-action adaptation of the C.S. Lewis classic, while the second will be an inspirational set comprising works by Christian acts.
Although the initial list of participating artists will not be announced until sometime in June, the EMI Music's Nashville-based EMI CMG has pegged Sept. 27 as the U.S. release date for the Christian set, with the mainstream collection to follow on Oct. 27. Radio singles and music videos tied to both releases are expected in August.
It is unknown in what form the film's score, which has been composed by Harry Gregson-Williams ("Kingdom of Heaven," "Man on Fire"), will be released. Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee also reportedly has a role in the film's soundtrack, but it is unknown in what capacity.
The epic film, directed by Andrew Adamson ("Shrek," "Shrek 2") will open Dec. 9 worldwide; EMI Music also plans to release the soundtracks on a worldwide basis.

Lewis' classic series is universal, and his writings have stood the test of time bringing pure enjoyment to generations of readers," says EMI Music North America chairman/CEO David Munns of the seven-part "Chronicles of Narnia" series, which has been published in 29 different languages.
Set in World War II England, "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" is the second book, first published in 1950. The story follows the four Pevensie siblings, who enter a magical world through a wardrobe in the rural country home of an elderly professor.
While multiple soundtracks for a single film have been released on numerous occasions, it's not often that collections appealing to different genres are conceived prior to the movie's release. One high profile example of that strategy is the trio of releases that accompanied the 1998 animated DreamWorks film "Prince of Egypt" -- a soundtrack and two albums "inspired by" the film, one country and one inspirational.
