Ani DiFranco, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Ozomatli, Chuck D & the Fine Arts Militia, and spoken word artist Saul Williams have signed for the Not In Our Name benefit concert, to be held Jan. 31 at the Berkeley (Calif.) Community Theatre. The event is being sponsored by the anti-war group Not In Our Name, a collection of artists and public figures expressing opposition to a war in Iraq.

Tickets to the concert are $30-$80 and are available on the group's official Web site. The proceeds will benefit the group, whose Statement Of Conscience reads in part:

"Let it not be said that people in the United States did nothing when their government declared a war without limit and instituted stark new measures of repression...We believe that people of conscience must take responsibility for what their own governments do -- we must first of all oppose the injustice that is done in our own name. Thus we call on all Americans to RESIST the war and repression that has been loosed on the world by the Bush administration. It is unjust, immoral, and illegitimate. We choose to make common cause with the people of the world."

In addition to the benefit concert, the group is planning simultaneous Rallies Against War tomorrow (Jan. 18) in Tucson, Ariz., Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Honolulu, and Westerly, R.I. A jazz concert, Jazz Against War, is planned for Feb. 4 at New York's Knitting Factory, with Sex Mob, Ralph Alessi & Modular Theatre, Paradox Trio, and Maroon set to perform.
