Thirteen-year-old Washington, D.C.-based independent label DeSoto Records has decided to stop releasing new music and will instead focus only on its catalog, highlighted by albums from acts such as the Dismemberment Plan, Shiner, and Burning Airlines. "I have enjoyed [almost] every minute of it, but I'm ready to try my hand at some new things," says label founder Kim Coletta, who formerly played bass in D.C. luminaries Jawbox. "I'm looking for a job in the library field. I'm also hoping to start playing bass again and see where it leads me."

Burning Airlines has opted to split after two well-regarded albums. The group's frontman (and former Jawbox lead singer) J. Robbins is working on new music and has produced upcoming albums from Jets To Brazil and Actionslacks. Having reached new commercial highs with its 2001 album "Change," the Dismemberment Plan is exploring new label options for its next set, according to frontman Travis Morrison.

Coletta says she is hoping to collaborate with the Plan on a compilation of fan-generated remixes, the building blocks for which are posted on the latter's official Web site. "I've heard some of the remixes and they're just fantastic," she tells Billboard.com.

On Sept. 9, DeSoto will re-release Shiner's 1997 album "Lula Divinia" with two bonus tracks. Coletta says she is trying to acquire the rights to re-release Jawbox's two Atlantic albums on DeSoto and "is in the midst" of getting the band's 1998 retrospective "My Scrapbook of Fatal Accidents" back in print. "There are plenty of Jawbox 'scraps' lying around, but some things should remain in my attic," she says."

As for the rest of DeSoto's roster, Chicago-based the Eternals are now signed to Aesthetics, while rock outfit Juno is "on hiatus." In terms of the management of DeSoto's back catalog, Coletta says, "Some records may be licensed to other labels. Other stuff I will keep in print myself as long as it makes sense."
