Demme Mines Vaults For 'Blow'

Comments

The Cheeba Sound/Virgin Records soundtrack for the film "Blow" sets the mood for the story's five-decade spanning storyline. The music of the Rolling Stones, Cream, KC & the Sunshine Band, the Faces, Bob Dylan, and newcomer Nikki Costa follows star Johnny Depp's portrayal of George Jung from a small town American upbringing to the jungles of Columbia and his position as the world's biggest cocaine importer.

Director Ted Demme paid a great deal of attention to the music used to back the true story, which was written by Nick Cassavetes. "I wanted the music in this film to be the definitive music collection from the 1970's and 1980's, without feeling familiar to other film soundtracks," Demme says.

Opening April 6 in U.S. theaters, the film also counts among its ensemble cast Penelope Cruz, Ray Liotta, Paul Reubens, Franka Potente, and Rachel Griffiths. The soundtrack is due out April 3.

Here is the "Blow" track list:
Rolling Stones, "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"
Link Wray, "Rumble"
Faces, "Glad And Sorry"
Cream, "Strange Brew"
Ram Jam, "Black Betty"
Manfred Mann's Earth Band, "Blinded By The Light"
Willie Rosario, "Let's Boogaloo"
KC & the Sunshine Band, "Keep It Comin' Love"
J Girls, "Yellow World"
Lynyrd Skynyrd, "That Smell"
Bob Dylan, "All The Tired Horses"
Marshall Tucker Band, "Can't You See"
Nikka Costa, "Push & Pull"
