Default, Elbow Postpone Tours

Canadian modern rock act Default has postponed a six-date European tour "due to singer Dallas Smith's flu-induced throat swelling," according to the band's label, TVT. The trek was due to begin tonight (Aug. 27) in Glasgow. "We're really disappointed about not being able to go to Europe right now," Smith said in a statement. "But as we have a lot of touring ahead of us for the rest of the year and beyond, it's really better to be safe than sorry."

The group is out in support of its TVT debut, "The Fallout," which is No. 5 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums tally this week. The single "Deny" is No. 14 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and No. 16 on the Modern Rock tally. The postponed dates will likely be made up in the fall to coincide with the planned international release of "The Fallout."

Default has a host of upcoming dates on its schedule, beginning Sept. 6 in Vancouver. In early October, the group will play four Australian shows as part of the touring M-One festival, which will also feature Goo Goo Dolls, Nickelback, Garbage, Lifehouse, and Midnight Oil on select dates.

In other touring news, U.K. rock outfit Elbow has called off a planned 13-date North American tour due to "a personal emergency," according to the band's label, V2. The tour was due to begin Sept. 3 in Washington, D.C.; the band is expected to return to North America early next year in support of its in-progress sophomore album. Elbow's debut set, "Asleep in the Back," has sold 28,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
