Debut Bjork Film Gets DVD Release

The 1990 film "The Juniper Tree," featuring the first starring role for Icelandic songstress Bjork, will be released April 23 on DVD by Rhino Home Video. The adaptation of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name finds Icelandic sisters Margit (Bjork's character) and Katla flirting with the supernatural on a remote farm, after their mother is burned at the stake for practicing witchcraft.

The reissue will include an interview with writer/director Nietzchka Keene, deleted scenes, and publicity photos from the black-and-white film. At the time of the film's original release, Bjork was already a star in Iceland thanks to the success of her band the Sugarcubes' debut album, "Life's Too Good." She would later win the best actress award at the 2000 Cannes film festival for her work in Lars Von Trier's "Dancer in the Dark."

As previously reported, Bjork last November released three DVDs of her own, chronicling a series of shows from throughout the '90s. In what is expected to be her only major concert appearance of the year, the artist will co-headline this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 27 in Indio, Calif.
